Days off!

Yesterday May 1st was Labor Day over here and even thou I didn't have the day off, I ended up having a great time^^

Kiki and Julian are always fun to be around and after my time with them, it was time to meet my sis and our Baby Bro to do some bowling.

Baby bro invited a friend, we have met him twice before and it was always VERY awkward, I thibk his time at the Army affected him a little bit too much, but he keeps on wanting to meet us and he claimed he missed us lol.

We met just in time for dinner, the good old BBQ always does the trick and then we were supposed to go bowling; turns out none of us (Baby bro's friend included) is actually good at it so, we decided to go to a 노래방 (Noraebang/Karaoke)... I was reluctant to go because well... we can get a lil crazy while singing and I didn't want to scare Baby Bro.and company but we did it when they said they liked to Dance while singing and even thou I can't dance; I love seeing people dance (lol).

The 1st in taking over the Mic was Baby bro (BB) and he apparebtly rocked Pokemon's song or some kind of Kids song, it was AWESOME, he danced, jumped, screamed and did everything I was afraid to do lol...

Their song choices were... ODD to say the LEAST, they went from Kids songs to sorrow to Englishman, Singing in the Rain and some Really old songs (English and Korean). My sister and I opted for the fun songs, Ashlee Simspon, M2M, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, 2NE1, etc... we seemed to be less mature than them haha.

BB was surprised wheb we sang in Korean and got very excited and the guys from the place asked him to keep it low LMAO!, after our 1st 2NE1 song, They requested "I am the Best" and of course we had to sing it.

It was SOOO much fun, they really go crazy, they sang, danced and  cheered, it wasn't even awkward with BB's friend (I can't remember his name... sorry dude!), at some point BB hugged my shoulder and kept swinging and WOW... real Human contact! Lol... I was shocked because lately he has been very polite and just shake hands when greeting us.

We sang for close to 2 hours and then called it a night, they walked us to our station and then said goodbye... although it seemed like none of us wanted to part ways because we kept walking sloooowly and 2 hours later BB messaged me that he was drinking nearby (We kind of knew since we walked by the place and saw then but ran away LOL) and wanted us to join him but well.. it was only thursday and some of us had things to do on friday.

We already agreed to meet soon for some Fried chicken and some hard drinking!

I seriously love Baby bro, he is super sweet, cute and caring~~

His girlfriend is a lucky dudette^^

Korean Food in Mexico 6

Restaurant: Chang Won
Location: Florencia 19 Col. Juarez, Cuauhtémoc, D.F
Price Range: 150-300MXP (Per Person)

2 Weeks ago I went for some Korean Food with a friend, it was a Restaurant I've tried before a couple of years ago, to be honest the 1st time I didn't like it very much but on a rainy Sunday afternoon not many places were open so we (I) gave it another chance...

The place is right across the street of BiWon (The 1st Korean Restaurant I visited EVER).

When we got there the place was almost empty, only 1 table was occupied with 3 Koreans, and so we had the place all for ourself and decided on a table by the window, just when we got seated the waiter handed us the Menu.... Everytime I go for Korean food with someone who dosn't know much about it I recommend Bibimbap because the flavor is not so strong yet is one of Korea's most recognized dish, but my friend wanted something different....something very Korean and so we ordered 김치찌개 (Kimchi Stew), 된장 찌개 (Soybean Paste stew) and 삼겹살 (Thick slices of pork belly).

When we got there I was wondering why the tables were covered, for those of you who have never been to a Korean Restaurant, most of them have a table with an Electric grill... but this time it was covered.... My friend was kind enough (lol) to ask the waiter WHY it was covered and he just said "Because the owner got this portable grill" O_O..... hmmm and WHY oh why did the owner got Portable grills???...that was something we didn't dare to ask because on the inside we were laughing at his first answer... I think it's just waisting money but who knows....

 So... the Food...

The 삼겹살 was frozen so it wasn't that good :( plus we were so into our conversation that we forgot about it and it got cold ...and let me tell you... re-heating it is NOT a good idea (hahah)... I sort of thaught him "how" to eat the 삼겹살 (I'm no expert ok!!) ...for this Dish I would give them 2 out of 5 stars.

You can't go wrong with 김치찌개... it's hot, spicy and an excellent dish for a rainy day :D...By the way I just asked him how the 김치찌개 was and he said "It was good" so I will say 4 out of 5 stars (???)

김치찌개
As for my 된장 찌개 .... it was OK...a bit greasy (don't know why....) and it had clams and I don't like'em very much.... so I didn't eat them so this one will get 3 out of 5 stars

된장 찌개

What I did notice was that portions were smaller thant other places I've been... and I don't complain just because it was smaller but because it was a bit more expensive than...let's say BiWon (By the way... I realized I never actually wrote about this place so I'll do it SOON!) and BiWon is considered one of the "best-nicest" Korean Restaurants of the area.

As for the 반찬 it was good...everything except for 1 that I never knew what it was... it looked like Kimchi-something but it had the consistency of worms O_O ... we received a great variety plus a very yummy rice... I think it was too much food for the 2 of us but we were there like 2 hours so we had plenty of time to finish almost
everything :)

반찬
To be honest... I don't think I'll be going back to that place... I have it 2 chances and non of them amazed me... neither the Food, the Service, the price or the atmosphere ... so Chang Won will only receive 2 1/2 stars out of 5.

Next time I'll write the review of BiWon (one of my fave places in Korea Town).... I guess I'll have to go back!! Anyone wants to join me?? :D

To be a freak or not to be a freak???

That is the question.....

I've been thinking about this for a couple of days... Thanks to my Korean lessons and my love for Korean Culture I am being catalogued by some of the people around me... I used to fight it....until today...when I decided to embrace it because let's face it...F--k'em!
I really do

I'm tired of giving explanations to all those who keep asking me if I want to be "chinese" or why am I so obsessed with Asia.... REMEMBER it's different if someone comes to me and genuinley ask me "Why my interest for Korean Culture".... Just a few days ago someone asked me "Do you have like a chinese ghost??".... HUH??? seriously?? wtf is that?.... 1st...it's not Chinese culture I like...is KOREAN culture,,and 2nd...what do you mean?...Ghost like Demi Moore's movie?? ..I really don't get it... O_O (If someone understand this...please let me know!!)

Is this 2 much??....
Nop, I'm not inlove with every Korean I've met, NO I don't want to marry a Korean men, NO I don't listen to K-pop all day (I only have like 20 songs and most of the times I don't know the name of the song/group), NO I don't watch Dramas all the time (I do sometimes thou... hehe), NO I have never said "I'f I don't marry I Korean I'm gonna die.... :(" but YES, I like learning Korean, I like listening to some songs or watching some Dramas and being able to understand 1 or 2 words, YES I like reading Korean, YES I want to go back to Korea sometime, YES I have met a few Koreans and I like their personality (and NO I'm not in love with them) ...so... Freak??? yea, maybe ...a lil bit, we always consider someone a Freak or a weirdo when "they" (we?) are into something that's not quite popular, right?? ...So yea, I'm a bit of a Freak....and loving it <3

And by the way... No, i'm not the kind of people who wants everyone to join her "Freaks-clan" ... I recently took a couple of friends to have Korean Food and HATED IT.... it was Awkard...some of them had asked me to take them to try Korean food before but this was their 1st time.... and OMG it was awkward and annoying, I recommended the Bibimbap because I believe it's a very KOREAN food but it's not as strong as Kimchi, I warned them about Kimchi  being a bit strong and some will call it and Acquired taste since I know Korean Food is not for everyone....but No I had to deal with the "Don't they give you salsa for this blend rice??", "This is weird", "I don't like them", "Is all korean food that bad?" ...ok ok ok I GET IT!, you didn't like it... next time we'll go for some Sushi O_o  ...WAIT!.........not all my friends hate Korean Food.. Some of my friends and family DO like Korean food and had asked to take them for som K-Food...those are the friends I love..........lol jk!! ;)  I love them all

So, am I the only Korean freak over here??............am I?  u_u

Oh!! by the Way... My lessons are going well :) ...I have tons of Vocabulary to learn ...plus Work plus...a trips in the next 3 weeks (OMG!!! So excited!!...i'll let you know more about it later!!),, 2 weeks ago I had the worst class ever!! I had a rough week and I didn't study and I honestly wasn't worried about it since the teacher said we were not doing TESTs every class...but tan tan taaaaaaaaan!!..we had one!!! I only asnwered 3 out of 10 "questions" ...and only got 2 of those 3 correct :'( ...I spend the whole class feeling guilty and dumb (let me remind you I'm int the Top 5 of the Oldies of the class...), so last week I was better prepared and even thou I don't think i'll get a 10 (A+) on my test...at least I know it won't be a 2... This time I know I have to study harder if I want to make it............Any advise????? :)

Anybody home??

Hello??

Seriously!... I know I've been absent for a while, it's been a few rough/complicated weeks... As some of you know my mom had to go back to the Hospital a bit less than 3 weeks ago... it took us all by sorprise but things are....getting better?... well..I'm not sure what's going on, I don't know if I'm really understanding things or if this is denial.... to be honest I DON'T KNOW!!!!, but right know we have to focus on what happens NOW... we have to live day by day the best way we can...
I know I'm not saying much, but it's hard for me to talk about this... So for now... all you get is this lousy post :S *sorry!!*

So... Hola Corea... it's been a Month since I started my Korean Lessons...and NO I don't speak Korean yet... everyone keeps asking me if I speak Korean now.... why don't YOU try taking 1hour a week of a new language and let me know if after 4-5hours you can actually speak that language.... ¬¬
Good thing is.... I can read!!!...Awesome, isn't it?? I started learning Korean 2 years ago but I dropped it about 1 month later...I knew some of the vowels ans consonants, but this time I know much more!, I'm still having a bad time with ㅐㅔ ㅗㅓ  .... Specially with the O's since we only have 1 O sound in Spanish....but I'm happy I'm learning to read, the sounds and new study techniques!
Next saturday I have class #5 (there are 8 classes per Level....i'm still on Level 1) and each week we have a lil test.... next week's have me a little nervous, I have to learn 20 words and even thou it's not hard I still have a full time job and it's been a bit hectic at home because of the big C.... so, we'll see how it goes :)

What else??.... I have 2 things I would loooooooooooove to talk about, but it's too soon u_u

I promise I will upload a recipe soon!!
